Strange results with MPEG player

I find now I am able to run MPEGDSP, but only if I run it from the
copy om CD-ROM. If I copy the same file to my hard disk (IDE) I
get bombs! I can live with it on CD for the number of times I
need to look at MPEGs but this doesn't make sense! Any ideas?
