ATARI SOLD TO HASBRO

Hasbor has officially purchaced all the rights to Atari. The deal was
made on
Febuary 28, 1998 "consisting primarily of Atari home computer games and
the
intellectual property rights and license agreements associated with such
games." This means that Hasbro owns all of Atari. It's unknown what
Hasbro
plans to do with Atari, but one source stated on JI exactly "HASBRO
WAS
INTERESTED IN THE ATARI NAME FOR A NEW VIDEO GAME CONSOLE
SET TO COME OUT IN
TIME FOR THE 1998 CHRISTMAS SEASON. SAID HUGH LAMBERT, VICE
PRESIDENT FOR
HASBRO "WE'RE GOING AFTER A RETRO-SORT OF MARKET. OUR
SYSTEM IS BASED ON A
68040 MICROPOCESSOR FROM MOTOROLA, AND IS BASICALLY ABOUT
AS POWERFUL AS ANY
OF THE CURRENT CROP OF SYSTEMS. HOWEVER, WE WERE
INTERESTED IN THE ATARI NAME
BECAUSE WE PLAN ON RELASING MANY OF THE SAME GAMES PEOPLE
GREW UP WITH ON
THEIR 2600S." I have not yet been abel to confirm this statment, but I
havn't
seen anything contridicting it either. Hasbro owns all rights to Atari,
including the Jaguar and the Lynx, so we may possibly see more games
for these
systems in the future, but it is doughtful as they could possibly release a
newer and better system. Things are really starting to look up for Atari,
and
there will be much more news to report on in the coming weeks. I will
keep
you all fully up to date as new infoemation becomes available.
