I talked with one of the Milan developers (who was in charge of the PCI
BIOS stuff, I think) some time back and, from what I remember, they only used
a hacked version of the TOS screen output routines then.

The VDI people were supposed to get in touch with me regarding cooperation
(performance/validation testing and possibly actual code), but I haven't
heard from them. It didn't sound like they had done anything substantial on
their VDI at that time...

Getting the current fVDI to _work_ in 8 or 16 bit colour on a Milan would
probably be an afternoon's work. Since it's so easy to write blitting
code and such for chunky graphics modes, two or three days work would give
you a really useful driver, I'd say.
Naturally, using the accelerated functions in a graphics card is tougher.
(If anyone has any experience with such things, I'd very much like to hear
about it.)
