yes, by copying the real ST screen into video card. This is nothing new
or interesting, I was always thinking about that. But the problem is the
copy routine has to run in VBL (or in MFP timer interrupt) - and nearly
every game usually disables all interrupts, so the routine doesn't get
called once the game starts...

Yes, this sounds like a cool idea. As I've been working on Atari800
emulator for about a year now and the emulator was still slow (even on
AB040) I decided to buy the gfx card to speed it up. Well, it didn't
help (no real fps number yet, sorry Johan). So at least I put the
emulated screen into window - but as the screen is 320x240 and I run in
1024x768 the window is pretty small - that's why I asked for the double
bytes trick (to get 640x480 at least).

But again, the game's output (or emulator's output) into GEM
multitasking window is useless, as keyboard is locked and whole computer
is busy running the emulator. And it even doesn't look great as the
color pallete has to be changed. So better no windows but full screen
picture on NOVA.
