Well, I mailed the author of ShapeShifter a long time ago about the same
topic and got no reply either. But, I think, the ShapeShifter sources
aren't really necessary. The only necessary things are:
1) a Mac (preferably m68k one)
2) a developer documentation
The first is available to buy, the other thing probably too, but as I
guess, it probably costs money payable to Apple Computers (Atari developer
documentation wasn't free either).
