People always forget that you actually must run the CPU emulation, even if
the emulator runs on the same CPU as the emulated machine (i.e. 68k has
to emulate 68k, instruction by instruction (which is _very_ slow)).

If MC68030 ~ i386 and MC68040 ~ 486 then you would need a fast MC68060
(i.e. Hades or Milan) to achieve decent speed of ST emulation written in
plain C (like is every portable ST emulator). I could say the speed
factor would be less than say 15%. I guess this because I know
how fast STonX is.

We would really need a m68k virtual machine in Linux for emulation
Amiga, Atari and Mac computers at once, with speed factor 80-90% of
emulated machine. Then it would be easily ported to MiNT, I believe ;-)
