The idea was (is? :-)) to avoid using the Mac ROM and "emulate it" using
Atari system calls and some additional stuff to allow the Mac applications
to run under GEM. The system documentation is needed to know if it is
possible at all. If so, the legal problems with Apple ROMs would be gone
forever. And it has nothing to do with MacOS internals or Mac hardware.
MacOS "externals" (i.e. the front end of the system presented to
programmers as a set of system calls) is the thing that would be
sufficient then.
