Hi!
I just wanted to tell everybody that both Geir Øyvind and me has
managed to get our Yamaha soundcards to work with our Falcons today
:-) This isn't a big achievement as it may sound, as it's only
Waveblaster-cards which means that all they need is power and a
MIDI-signal...
However, getting the MIDI -> TTL conversion right wasn't as easy as we
hoped when we bought our cards so after a lot experimenting it felt
good to hear "Peter Gunn theme" from the soundcard tonight :-)
The card is really, really excellent, if you've ever heard a AWE64
play midi and was impressed by it then you really should listen to the
DB50XG for a minute or two. I really recommend everybody who wants to
listen to MIDI-files (the net is full of them) or get into composing
to buy one. I (or Geir Øyvind) will write a tutorial on how to adapt
it to the Falcon (or any ST/TT with a PC-PSU) in a few days.
The problem is finding a decent MIDIfile-player, the best I've found
so far is SMF-Player which is pretty good but use busy-waiting (!) for
it's timing, so it gets totally out of sync when the load goes up. If
anybody knows about a better player then please let me know.
