I have noticed that the audio device doesn't select the correct frequency
at the first time of asking, more often that not!

Try running the actrl command 2 or 3 times: that seems to sort it out. I
must have written a bit of dodgy code :-(

When I have sorted out my gcc setup, I'll take a look at the code -
hopefully soon.
