I did have a very similar problem on this weekend, too. I couldn't even
boot to the desktop. I "solved" it by fiddling with my keyboard connector
in the tower (there is a bad connection, probably).

Yes, temperature/humidity is an important factor of stability of my
system, too. However this weekend it first worked and then it broke
suddenly, so it couldn't be due to weather change :-)
