I keep the copyback-cache on all the time as well, but there are a few apps that doesn't like this. The only two I can think of right now are GEM-Bench and ImageCopy. They only crash during startup though, if you enable CB after they've started they work fine.

Memory-protection works just fine on the Afterburner, but it *can* cause problems for applications. It did sound very likely in your case, but it's always worth trying.
